About the project

“Diversity: A Critical Engagement” was written and researched as part of my ACE supported Clore Fellowship (2015-2016), and generously funded by the AHRC. My academic supervisor for the project was John Holden. The report was completed in 2017, and I hope the debate will proliferate online and in the world subsequently.

One purpose of this project is to create a resource where cultural professionals can find information about the history and associations of the most common words that we encounter in relation to racial and ethnic diversity. The other aim of the project is to question and rethink some of the terms that we maybe take for granted or feel uncomfortable about. I hope you find it useful, informative and provocative.

My name is Nasheed Qamar Faruqi and I’m a London based filmmaker.┬áPlease see my website if you’d like to find out more about my work as a writer and director.
